On 3 May 08, we had our Freshman Orientation Camp for our new intake!
Ice-breaking, bonding and station games were all in all fun!
We hope the freshies who came for it did enjoy the whole process ;D
A very extended thanks to our organisers, Jacelyn and LiSi!

Though there were obstacles after obstacles during the station games, the freshies persevered without any qualms!
That's the spirit we seniors want- the never-say-die spirit!

We hope that all of you will have this kind of spirit for the subsequent trainings to come.
The start on new things always ain't easy.
But if you really want to know and love something, you must persevere no matter what.
Everything will get easier along the way. :D

Apologising for the late uploads on the opening ceremony on 9th April 08, the day when the drums returned!

We gathered in the clubhouse at 1030hrs, and everyone was in high spirits and anticipating the call from the delivery man which would announce the arrival.

And when the drums did arrive past noon, we prepared our trolley and off we went. There were so many huge boxes to be ferried, and we made several trips to and fro before finally moving everything into the clubhouse. The whole process was really tiresome as the boxes were really bulky but I thought we really enjoyed the process, helping one another and stuff alike.

Open ceremony we had, but we couldn't play the drums yet before clearing all the boxes and getting them out of the way. The whole process took some 1 hour, and hereby I apologise for the mess that were still in the clubhouse after everything. hoho.

Anyway, it's really great to be able to play the real drums again, and the feeling is just so different... I think everyone will have their own impressions on playing the drums again. (:
(I also don't know what I'm trying to imply here. haha)
All in all, we were amazed to find strands of cow hair on the drum skins. =P

Veron is having a chronic writer's block over at Blogger and forum. But she is here to shed some light over the doubts on the novel titled "The Mystery of the Disappearing Juniors". XD

CASE #01.
On 28th March 08, Friday, late afternoon, Detective IZ, Jus, Kel and Ver spotted one of the disappeared juniors after their shopping rounds.

They spotted Tomo at City Hall MRT station. He's busy working currently, and may not attend our gathering. He added that he will attend trainings when school reopens. The last song he has learnt was Kiyon.

CASE #02.
On the same day, Detective Jus wanted to find out if another missing junior Melvin will be coming for the gathering or not. Hence, Detective Ver decided to ring him up.

He picked up the phone! So Detective Ver asked him if he's coming for our gathering. He said most likely not and apologised, since he will only return to SG on 13April.

my dearest fellow juniors, let's work and train hard for our coming test! we've been through this far, so let us give our best shot this time round!

remember our tremendous struggle during 方？i would classify that period as a test of our perseverance and enthusiasm.
we endured all the body aches after every training, because we yearn to know daiko more.
we began to love the trainings, because we see the seniors' efforts in coaching us and getting to know us, plus the patience they've showered us all along.
we may not express verbally to the seniors that we're thankful to them, but deep inside us, we wish to, right?
maybe we've tried to use other channels to express our thoughts and feelings to seniors, but little did we know that may have made everything more vague. but in a way or two, we'll see the light.

we laugh, we joke, and we dare to be expressive during trainings, as we feel that all of us are close-knit enough for all these.
we don't describe ourselves as "one big family" for nothing.

there may be times when quarrels, conflicts and conflicting ideas surface. everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different experiences and mindsets, hence we can't expect everyone to think like us. i would like to quote from what Mel said during the meeting(can't word for word though, paiseh, but i hope it'll be about the same meaning), that is, when people don't walk the path you're walking, do not force or push them to your path. Instead, slowly steer and guide them to your path.

the road to bond everyone together isn't smooth. but as long as we have the same goals and ideas, and see the same picture, the road can be rough, uneven, winded for all we care, but we know, the destination's not far.

remember, we are a part, not apart. (:

Hi everyone! I had promised that I would upload the videos of yesteryears. OK, not that long. Actually, I know you guys are eager and enthusiastic about it. So, no more suspense.

It's our mid-autumn festival celebration cum gathering cum bonding cum birthday celebration cum 中秋节 cum 聚会 cum 促进凝聚力 cum 生日庆祝会. O.o

1) We had our Musical-Pass-the-Lantern-and-Shoo-the-Ball-with-Forfeit game. OMG, actually that was also the birthdate of Fourfeet mentioned in earlier post XD

Subsequently, we had our Amazing Race in SP compound. Did I mention that my team won?! hahaha...And at the finale of that wonderful night, we celebrated Kelly Liaw, Lisi and Justina's birthdays. The whole scene was rather chaotic though. Many had been victims of cream bombs. ><

Thanks to the seniors who made this gathering fun! ^^

A random afternoon in Spring 2008- the born of Four-Feet.

Hi everyone!! It's spring, oh my!! It is the time when everyone gets lively, on their feet and sweat it out~! Or some prefer to shout it out. Ok, random.

It's a sunny afternoon in Spring. For the past few weeks, the juniors have been learning a song called 春风. Hey, it blends well, doesn't it? 春风它吻上了我的脸，告诉我现在是春天~ So our used-to-be President(oops =X) conducted his second round of mock test(jitters in us). The thumb of rule was that the first junior who hits the maximum of 5 mistakes shall enjoy the prized "Four-Feet".

Explanation of "Four-Feet"
"Four-Feet"- Created under careful planning and deep risk-evaluating until the inventors had 101% confidence that satisfaction is guaranteed. Specially formulated with the expertise of "Four-Feet" masters, what's not to like? What's more, it's encouraging, and has the mighty power that pushes everyone to perform his/her best. Yet, the uncanny thing was that everyone shunned it as if it's a monster. Strangely enough, "Four-Feet" seemed to love those playing Shime daiko more. Is it a blessing, or a curse? And, who was the lucky soul who got the privilege to try it out first-hand? Please watch the upcoming video to determine. Please turn on the volume to experience Four-Feet.

The daring and adventurous KEL accepted her fate as a 5-pointer in basketball. Not. She's participative enough to give "Four-Feet" a go. She even helped out in improving Four-Feet. That's the spirit. Applause for her good sportsmanship~! Hello, Wassup! 我是Zhi Cai!

Poly life is coming to an end for year 3s like us. Some of us have already finished the last and final paper.. Mine is ending tomorrow.. 3 years have ended so fast, and this means we will have to bid farewell to daiko soon. Sad isn't it? All the year 3 peeps can post ur thoughts and experiences in daiko on this blog ya? Good things must share.. Haha.

Daiko life coming to an end.

Year 1

-Signed up at Daiko booth with zc.

-Getting to know everyone on orientation.

-Saw my 1st Daiko performance by the seniors in the old clubhouse.

-First training on friday.

-Red drums. 8 people on 1st training.

-Helping out at the National Day Celebration in Jurong East. Quite boring.

Well just to share something with you all from what i have just came across on the net.. Yeah Jack probably has seen this but most of you all didn't. This is an extract from Eric (our mc for kodai concert)'s blog on our last year's concert.

Here it goes:

Just got back from a hearty dose of hosting at Daiko 2007, an annual drum performance put by the S’pore Polytechnic Japanese Drum Team. Thanks to this hosting engagement, I had the chance to witness the grace and power of Daiko drummers. Trust me, it takes skill, strength and a sense of rythmn to drum up a decent tune. And as usual, I had a lot of fun hosting this event with Charissa whom I met at Irene’s hosting class.

Our role as hosts was straightforward: To narrate the two hours story interwined with the Daiko drum performance. We had an unsaid role as well: To ensure that there is no awkard silence while they set up the stage for their next drum piece. Now that’s the tough part coz’ you never know when you will be hit by dead silence and you don’t really have a pre-written script to help you out. Ironically, it is in such times of unpredicaability that humor presents itself.

L-R: Wakame & Momoko (stage lovers), Charissa (my co-host), moi, Weisi, Jennifer and Jessica (my friends!) And in the front row, we have Misa and Kenichi (stage baddies).

Such as a particular scene when the two main characters had to journey through the unventured mountains to find the lengendary hero. As planned, the lights were supposed to be on them (Wakame and Momoko) yet they were no where in sight. And the stage manager took the liberty of shining the spotlight on us instead, which means “SAY SOMETHING!!!” So here’s what happen. Charissa looked at me and started asking me what I think the legendary hero will look like. As you and I know, this was not on our script. Without thinking, I said something along the line of “well… most legendary heroes are bald… and since this is some kind of drum performance in the old japanese days, he will look like a drum…” And that got the audience bawling over. We took the cue and started making more fun of the so called legendary hero.

And then there was another scene when Wakame was suppose to be courting Momoko with “Can you feel the love tonight?” playing the background. First of all, only Momoko was on stage. And we (as hosts) have no idea where Wakame was. On script, he was suppose to be with her. That was when we played along and started shouting for him. And we even cooked up a story of how Wakame was always late. And then when he finally came down much to our relief, we instinctively tease him again, which elicited quite a bit of laughs. Next, was the “flower” that he got for Momoko which was wayyyy too small… in fact if I recall correctly, it wasn’t even a flower. It was some kind of weed. And then I continued teasing him by calling him a “yaya-papaya” when he was smirking at the audience. This interaction between the storytellers and characters was unplanned yet added freshness and fun to the performance.

Of course there was the final scene. It took extremely long to set up which was understandable since this was the finale, and the drums were really heavy. Hence in the name of fun, we decided to do an audience poll. Just a side note. When you have a spot light shining directly on you, you see absolutely nothing except a circle of white light. Still, we pretend to be looking at them and asked, “SO WHAT ENDING WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE?”. To our surprise, a lot shouted SAD!!! Talk about a morbid bunch of people we have as audience (grins) And so we played along. By the time the schmoozing with the audience was done, the drummers were prepared for a final showdown.

So if you ask me, I say that as a host, you got to master the art of “thinking on the feet” coz’ you never know what is going to happen. And it is in times like this where a host truly shines. Of course, it really helps to have a co-host to banter with, since this effectively means that you only have to memorize half the script. And if you forget your lines, you always have your co-host to back you up. So Charissa, if you are reading this, many thanks! More to come yeah!

-Improvisation of DOH, Yoshino, Kiyon and SOK.

For the 9-week holidays, there will be:
-Learning of Soretakebushi, Masaru and Adventure for those who haven't finished learning yet.
-Improvisation on Wadaiko before learning.
-Introducing song composition, come up with at least 2 new songs for the upcoming concert (still under planning)
-Plan for daiko concert 2008.

Both teams CHIONG all the way and had a fair game unlike last year. Oops. Haha. Can see the enthusiasm in everyone. Hohoho. In the end Team Mistletoe won by about 5-6 mins? Haha. Hope both team members had lots of fun cos seniors have been spending lots of time planning for this game. I think my group members should have lots of fun despite not winning right? Haha. Good job everyone. This game is some sort of a gift from the seniors to the juniors. Like what our seniors have planned for us in the past as a gift from them to us. SPJDDT will have a New Year's Eve performance at Boon Lay. We are the opening performance group at around 10pm. Cab fees can be claimed if we leave the venue past midnight. Please reply your attendance to Cally. You will be notified on further details via SMS from either Cally, Veronica or Jaslyn. Please check this blog for any upcoming events too, as it will be an avenue for communication from now onwards.

i rmb clearly last yr not a single person cannot make it for the training rehearsals and stuff..
